The Public House | Old Lyme CT

I was recently asked to take some photos of The Public House in Old Lyme CT.  I was extra excited because it was a new place with great reviews that I hadn't gotten a chance to visit yet, and if there's something I love, it's trying new places to eat.  If you can give me great food, great drinks and an awesome atmosphere, I'll see you there!  So sure I'll take a field trip to The Public House!  One of the owners/managers Kaitlin Baker-Hewes met me on that perfect late summer afternoon.  Talk about a busy girl, Kaitlin is also part owner of the sister restaurant that you may have {probably definitely have} heard of, The Mystic Boathouse.  And as if running two restaurants were not enough, Kaitlin is also half of the awesome team that makes up Blue Lane Events, a wedding/event planning and design service.  The Public House was super easy to get to, a pretty straight shot off the highway.  I knew I was going to love the place as soon as I walked in.  As much as I love good food, I'm very drawn to a place with a sweet, creative style and some great music.  I was very impressed by all of the above at this restaurant.  A modern speakeasy feel is what emanates right from the entryway.  Great laid back tunes were playing, welcoming you to have a beer and a seat at the bar and watch whatever game is playing on either of their flat screen tvs.  Oooo speaking of beer, they have quite the selection on tap, 12 to chose from, including my favorite which I was psyched to see, Goose Island Sophie. These 12 are complimented by the great craft brew selection in bottle.  Oooo and speaking of on tap, they also offer four wines on tap. How awesome is that??! If you prefer to take one of their hand crafted drinks such as the super creative Prosecco and Rock Candy cocktail to a table, their generous sized dining room is more than accommodating.  It offers the same updated-throwback feel but a little more intimate.  And if you have the opportunity you could also see if their private room is available.  This room is stocked with board games, books, a long family style table and a skylight that lets in the warm streaming sunlight.  Makes you feel like you are truly in a cozy Irish Pub.  Although I'm sure the Guinness also helped set that mood ;)  The Public House is also quite proud of its distinct and generous top shelf whiskey and bourbon collections, and it's the only place that I have seen with a selection of 11 different flavors of bitters to keep the creative cocktails coming.  And as far as the food is concerned, the menu is large and enticing.  A great variety is available from expected appetizers like calamari, to unexpected such as the deviled eggs.  Entrées are generous in size and mouth watering, it's fair to say the roasted bone in chicken will be more than enough food for you.  But you better save room because then there is dessert. The homemade chocolate chip cookies sandwiching vanilla ice cream with chocolate sauce dripping off was swoon worthy.  Well actually, it was Spoon Worthy.  But now I will let the pictures speak for themselves...
