I am fortunate enough to have a little more of a personal story when it comes to Ali + Dave, so in place of telling you about their dating and proposal details I would like to share that here instead. (ok but maybe I will just sneak in that Dave surprised Ali with a proposal in freaking Portugal. How awesome is that?!)
I first had the absolute pleasure of meeting Ali when she organized a pretty epic bachelorette party for her soon to be sister in law a couple of summers ago. As part of this party, she hired a van and a driver to drive us to Newport, about an hour away. We were packed pretty tight into the van and so Ali was in the passenger seat and I noticed her getting along quite well with the driver. There was the chatting, and I will even say some flirting and I thought it was just the prosecco talking. When we got out of the van in Newport the driver said he would come back and pick us up and Ali leaned in and gave him a kiss! I laughed just thinking that is a great way to start a bachelorette party!
So turns out, the "driver", Captain Dave (as us girls had started to call him) was in fact Ali's boyfriend. I found this so amazing because I assumed he was being so good natured and putting up with us obnoxious, loud girls because he was working for a tip or perhaps wanted to date this beauty next to him, but come to find out he's not getting paid and he was already dating the girl! He was just that nice! I'm not kidding when I say we probably stopped at 3 gas stations on the way home and Captain Dave just made sure we were all set and we were having a good time and all while having a smile on his face the whole time.
I didn't know that our paths would cross again later as their wedding photographer, but I can tell you I was really hoping it would because I wanted this boy to marry this girl! Like now. They both have THE. BEST. smiles in the world. The kind of smiles that make your heart melt, and then on top of that they just genuinely care about every single one of their friends so much. On their wedding day if Dave wasn't smiling or laughing it was because he was teary-eyed, he had a really hard time controlling his emotions when he saw his beautiful bride Ali walking down the aisle. A hurricane decided to hang out on the Cape as well on the same weekend, but I can honestly say you didn't even notice the wind and the rain as Ali + Dave spoke the sweetest personal vows to each other. We were able to venture outside and even though it meant some rain and wind, Ali couldn't have cared less. She was on such a high from marrying the love of her life and anywhere they could be together was right where she wanted to be.
Ali + Dave shared their wedding with the closest of family and friends in a destination location, The Wequassett Resort and Golf Club on Cape Cod. Guests travelled from all over New England, New York, New Jersey, and I'm sure elsewhere to toast to the couple who, in one way or another, had made an impact on their hearts. And it was my absolute honor to be the one to document it. Enjoy some photos of these beautiful humans!!! I love you Ali and Captain Dave!!
